Do not join Urban Jungle Self Defense in the Heights!! They are dishonest at best. I started training there in July 2007. I was routinely told to "be selfish" and "quit helping" new students. Likewise, I was provided very little assistance in improving my own skills. Tony, the owner, is impossible to hire for private classes. Instead, he gives you a run around, sending you from one employee to another and promising to "get back to you soon." I stopped training at their gym after nine months of discouragement and frustration. Now, after months at a new gym, Urban Jungle has suddenly started charging my bank account for membership that I have asked to be closed. They are insisting that I must continue to pay them through the "term" of the contract which they seem to be prolonging indefinitely. The one good thing I can say is that there are some genuinely nice guys who are members. However, you can find nice guys anywhere; a good instructor is much more rare. Stay away from this gym!

Do not join Urban Jungle Self Defense in the Heights!! They have bizarre business logic and cannot be trusted. I only attended one class, wherein I was mocked by the school's owner, Tony. My boyfriend trained with them for months until he became overwhelmed with frustration. They are charging us for months of training AFTER we closed his contract and claiming to have done us a favor by closing my contract (remember I only attended the free trial class.) Avoid the headache; join a different gym!!

The cardio kick boxing on Mon/Wed nights is basically a dance class, no actual contact. The gym is VERY small, its 1 room. Fri night / Sat am kickboxing can be fun but there is little instruction on the art of...

I would not consider this school to be a top school as they claim. They are a good school, bringing in big names in jui jitsu. With close to $300 down payments & well over a hundred dollars($130-$185) a month...
